The Lauder Institute of the University of Pennsylvania Announces Gift to Establish the Anthony L. Davis Director of the Lauder Institute
Philadelphia, PA, February 1, 2016 — The Lauder Institute of the University of Pennsylvania is delighted to announce a generous commitment from Anthony L. Davis, G’97, WG’97, which will establish and provide integral support for the Anthony L. Davis Director of the Lauder Institute, currently held by Mauro F. Guillén.
“Because of Tony’s generosity and foresight in establishing this position, Mauro Guillén and all future Directors of Lauder will be able to advance exciting new initiatives that will continue to position the Institute at the cutting-edge of global business education,” said Wharton Dean Geoffrey Garrett. “All of us at Wharton are thrilled by this commitment and are so grateful to Tony for his incredible leadership.”
A highly dedicated member of the Lauder community, Mr. Davis is both a Lauder alumnus and a member of the Institute’s Board of Governors. “My Lauder education has played an important role in shaping my career, and giving back to the Institute as an alumnus has been very rewarding to me,” said Mr. Davis, who has been instrumental in the success of The Lauder Institute Challenge, the Institute’s inaugural fundraising and engagement campaign. “As a member of the Board, I have seen firsthand the work that Mauro and his team are doing to ensure that Lauder remains a leader in global business education. I am pleased to deepen my engagement with the Institute through this gift.”
In addition to his role as the grateful Anthony L. Davis Director of the Lauder Institute, Professor Mauro Guillén holds the Dr. Felix Zandman Endowed Professorship in International Management at the Wharton School and is a Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. He received a Ph.D. in sociology from Yale University and a doctorate in political economy from the University of Oviedo in his native Spain. His current research deals with the internationalization of the firm, and with the impact of globalization on patterns of organization and on the diffusion of innovations.

Davis Director of the Lauder Institute,” said Professor Guillén. “This gift will benefit the entire Lauder community by allowing us to expand on global education initiatives that build our students’ language, managerial, and cultural skills.”
Mr. Davis is founder and managing partner of Inherent Group, LLC. Inherent invests in public and private companies that are expected to generate superior financial returns alongside positive social and environmental impact. Inherent also provides grants to nonprofit organizations that are aligned with its mission of protecting the environment, increasing access to quality education, and improving health and wellness. Prior to Inherent Group, Mr. Davis was the co-founder and president of Anchorage Capital Group, LLC and served as a portfolio manager for all the domestic and offshore funds managed by the firm. Previously, he worked at Goldman Sachs, where he eventually co-led the firm’s distressed bond business. Mr. Davis’ professional education was at the Wharton School and the Lauder Institute, where he received an MBA and an MA, respectively; he received his BS degree from Brigham Young University magna cum laude.
